Healthy Tilghman: Our Story & Partners

At a glance: Healthy Tilghman, a community outreach of Tilghman Methodist Church, was launched in April 2016 to address addiction and overdose deaths in the Bay Hundred area. It works with partners including For All Seasons Behavioral Health & Rape Crisis Center, the Talbot County Health Department and Chesapeake Voyagers, and brings counseling, peer support, NARCAN, exercise and community events to Tilghman Island.

How Healthy Tilghman began

Healthy Tilghman was launched in April 2016 to address addiction and overdose deaths in the area. It is a partnership and outreach program of Tilghman Methodist Church and For All Seasons, Behavioral Health and Rape Crisis Center, Inc. Its vision is to improve the quality of life in the Bay Hundred community by enhancing health and wellness and by ending drug overdose death, offering local care, support and hope to each person and family.

What Healthy Tilghman supports

  • Mental health assessment and counseling from the church Annex, and assessment and counseling for youth attending Tilghman’s elementary school.
  • Faith-based referral, counseling and support from the pastors at Tilghman Methodist Church and St. John’s Chapel.
  • Peer support for individuals and families, and peer training.
  • NARCAN distribution to reduce overdose.
  • Weekly exercise classes, food support and community educational programs.
  • An annual 5K/1K run and walk of the island.

Tilghman Goes Purple

On September 15, 2018, Healthy Tilghman, Tilghman Methodist Church and St. John’s Chapel held “Purple in the Park” at Kronsberg Park and the Tilghman Island firehouse, part of the Talbot Goes Purple campaign against the opioid epidemic. More than 150 people came for information, food, music and demonstrations from the Sheriff’s Office, the State Fire Marshal and the Volunteer Fire Company.
